Author Spotlight Series: Maxwell Clay & “Game Over”

Video games are fun, but so is family! And in Game Over (2022), that is what protagonist, Alex, comes to realize. After he and his mom get trapped in his favorite video game, Alex must work closely with his relative to escape the game. Through this adventure-filled journey, readers of all ages are reminded of the balance that should be created between time with technology and those we love.


In an interview with Young Authors Publishing Assistant Editor, Brooke Shannon, author Maxwell Clay shares the importance of familial support, his favorite genre, and more.


Brooke Shannon: What inspired you to write your book?


Maxwell Clay: Many kids in my generation love playing video games, including myself. But, I wanted to write a story that shared the importance of spending time with the people that matter most… your family.


BS: What was one takeaway about writing you discovered while writing your book?


MC: I realized how important it was to have support while writing my story. There's nothing more important than family!


BS: Who is your favorite author and why?


MC: J. K. Rowling is my favorite author. She writes fun fantasy books, my favorite genre, and I geek. I'm never bored of the stories she writes.


BS: What do you hope readers will take away from your book?


MC: I hope readers takeaway that while video games are fun, family time is the best time!


BS: What advice would you give to young authors or creatives?


MC: Continue doing a great job and believe in your abilities!
